UK Recycling Efforts Compared to Other Countries

The UK’s recycling performance varies significantly across its regions. According to a recent study by Eunomia Research and Consulting, Wales leads the way in the UK, ranking second globally with a recycling rate of 59%, closely behind Austria at 59%. Northern Ireland ranks 9th, England 11th, and Scotland 15th among the 48 countries included in the comparison.

This disparity highlights the importance of consistent and effective recycling strategies. High-performing countries like Austria and Wales have formal waste and recycling strategies, widespread separate collection of common recyclables, and methods to ensure recycling is funded on a “polluter pays” basis. These practices contribute to their higher recycling rates.

At SBS Waste Services, we are committed to supporting businesses in improving their recycling practices. By partnering with us to manage your waste paper, plastic, and cardboard, you can contribute to a more circular economy. Let’s work together to enhance the UK’s recycling performance and strive for excellence in waste management.
